Hi, can anyone help please. Glen, 16 is staying on School from September for the 3year F.E. course. He can claim EMA but has to have a bank account. I want to open one for him but I am worried because he cannot sign his own name. Has anyone else been in this position, will the bank open an account with me signing on Glen's behalf?

Hi Jeanne
I haven’t got to this stage yet as jack is only 14
But I am sure that someone will know the answer
just a thought, it may be easier to open a joint account for glen and yourself? you will be able to sign this way
Hope you get it sorted

Jeanne,

If you go along to your local bank and explain the situation to them; you can, as Jill has suggested, open a joint bank account for Glen and yourself and the money can be paid into that.

I have something different for Craig in respect to his Direct Payments; I had to open a bank account in his name and I went to the bank and spoke to someone there about Craig and the account is in Craig's name but I am the only signatory on the account. This was done at a small local bank so I don't know if the major banks will offer the same kind of service.

If you go along to the bank and explain Glen's situation, they will be able to help. They probably have dealt with this situation many times before.

Take care.

Kim

Thanks Kim, I am going to the bank in town tomorrow with various forms of I.D. for Glen and myself, so fingers crossed. I will let you know how I get on.

Hi I inquired at Barclays where I have an account and I have an appointment to see someone next Thursday. I was told that the account for Glen could be set up until he is 18, and I could sign, but I don't know what would happen after he's 18 so I will have to ask.
